 BoCo rules
« Thread Started on Apr 28, 2005, 6:16pm »

This folder will have the rules of the BoCo forums.

So far, they are pretty simple:

  • Play nice! i.e., no bashing, flaming, YELLING, etc.
  • No "real" swearing... Proboards has rules against that, and the bot will automatically change all the bad words to something really strange. ::)
  • Have fun!

If you have any questions about the rules, or have some suggestions for what should be "set in stone", just let me know. (You can click the little box under my name that says "PM").

Now that we are beginning to add avatars to our posts, I think it is a good time to set a max size for them.

100x100 pixels (the size of mine) seems to be a good beginning. Edit (4/30) - kelseymeg has added 2 new Constantine avatars to the dropdown list on the Profile page! ;D Edit again (6/30) - We also have these avatars plus a few more over at the MaroulisConnection site --> HERE If you want to use any of the ones other than the 3 that are already in our dropdown, please save them & upload to an image host (like Photobucket) instead of hotlinking!

Anyone caught breaking any of the forum rules will get 2 warnings. But 3rd strike, and you're OUT! That means banned, and I'd hate to see that happen. :( So if you're unsure about something, PLEASE ASK!!

Just a quick update on the rules here. After the Betty Boards went down last week, I thought perhaps I'd better state it explicitly -

No nudity!

This is against the ProBoards terms of service, and can cause the whole board to be deleted (the way Bravenet zapped the Betty boards). We don't want that to happen, do we? :o

Another little tweak of the rules:

  • Please consider the majority of this forum to be rated PG (like the AI boards) - not all our members are adults.
  • The "Snark Attack!" board in the Playground is considered PG-13. Feel free to poke fun at ANY public figures on this board. Bashing, however, is still off limits.
  • The usernames "Constantine" & "greekboy" have been reserved to prevent imposters & impersonators from causing trouble. If Constantine wants to sign up (and he's definitely invited! LOL) I'll unlock whichever name he wants to use once I'm sure it's him. *pssst... Constantine... email me!* ;)

A few words on "censorship" on the boards ...

A lot of you are familiar with the official American Idol message boards. So a lot of you are also familiar with the way posts get deleted for mentioning competing message boards or certain "rubber" bands, posting links, etc. Also the way posters can get banned or "bluelined" seemingly at the drop of a hat & for no good reason at all.

That won't happen here. That's why we call this place "The Refuge"...

You may also be familiar with the way the AI boards simply won't allow you to post if your message contains certain forbidden words, like "fixed" or "rigged" etc. Feel free to type those words all day long, in any post you make around here.

There are a few words that are censored, however. These are what are generally considered to be profanity, and are automatically censored by ProBoards. Use of these words is actually against the ProBoards terms of service, so I won't be altering that list very much, if at all. Some of our members haven't reached adulthood yet, you know. ;) However, I have tried to set things up so that only actual profanity gets replaced.

So if you type a word, and it gets changed to "thingy" or is full of *** in the posted message, just know that the ProBoards search&replace bot has been hard at work! ;D
